Facebook Photos are kinda Public Domain, you know

So Brad browsed through his Facebook, and then he saw this photo with an extremely selfish warning of copyright. It is as if there would be a legal action if someone will grab the photos. Brad was like, “Mate, you fucking put your photos on Facebook. You already gave away you fucking rights to your photos.”

Point taken. I totally agree. See, if you want all that copyright bullshit then don’t put your photos on Facebook, especially if you think highly of yourself as a “photographer.” I don’t think Mark Zuckerburg put a hidden disclaimer when he gives everybody the chance to “tag” the photos.

It’s a stupid idea to demand copyright on Facebook. Euhmm let me think for a moment. I suppose that you don’t want anybody grabbing or tagging your photos, but then, you want them to “like” the photos. Yup, I don’t get it.

Here’s what I learned from posting photos on Facebook:

1. They will always be tagged.

2. They will always be grabbed.

3. If they are on Facebook, there’s nothing special about them anymore. (Unless the album is set private or exclusively available.)

4. Watermarks are overrated. There’s always Photoshop to wipe them away. Still, put them anyway.

5. Reducing the size and resolution of the photos is way better than watermarks.

6. Protect photos through manipulations like blurring, sketching, crazy-ing, jejemon-ing, etc.

7. I always reserve the rights to my photos by posting them on my website, Picasa, Flickr and the likes.

Just a very kind reminder. If you want a full copyright of your photos, or if you are really cautious about people grabbing or tagging them on Facebook, why don’t you keep them safe in your hard drive. Brad does. He calls them, “For My Eyes Only” photos.

You also can print them. Frame them. Put them on your “actual” wall.

Oh wait, do you want compensation for each grab or tag? Hmmnn yup, I miss out that point. Don’t tell Facebook or else people will get the idea. Coming to think of it, it’s brilliant! You can make money out of your Facebook photos. Imagine that. If a thousand would grab/tag your photo at a dollar each, you will have a thousand dollar. Let’s throw in the “like” too. A dime for a like like Google AdSense. Ha!

I think you miss this one from the Statement of Rights and Responsibilities:

For content that is covered by intellectual property rights, like photos and videos… you specifically give us the following permission, subject to your privacy and application settings: you grant us a non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use any IP content that you post on or in connection with Facebook (IP License). This IP License ends when you delete your IP content or your account unless your content has been shared with others, and they have not deleted it….

A friend of mine is right, Facebook has to definitely include a “Fuck Off” button. Yup, definitely.

Google Can’t Make It Rain

It’s the Christmas season and Google came up with this “holiday” idea that when you search “Let it snow,” snowflakes would appear on your screen. Mist would appear until your screen would be like frosted. Further then, you can “defrost” the screen.

It’s cool. Literally.

Then Brad tried, “Let it rain.”

Too bad it didn’t rain on the screen.

Google should try it too, yeah?

How about “Let it shine” too after the rain. :)
